Silvia Barra is a freelance technical translator and editor since 2008. Her working languages are English, French, and Italian.
She holds a University Degree in Chemistry. Her first working experiences were in the chemistry and environmental fields.
As a technical translator, she deals with texts in the fields of chemistry, industry, environment, and medicine. As an editor, she writes procedures, technical sheets, environmental reports, quality-related documents.
Since 2019 she has been a teacher in courses on chemical and medical/pharmaceutical translation and scientific English. Since 2020, she has been a tutor at the ICON master’s course in specialist translation.
Silvia has been studying Simplified Technical English for a number of years and she is a member of the STEWG-IT working group since 2022.
She carries out research on inclusive languages and various aspects of inclusivity, with a special focus on the medical field.
She is a member of the Order of Chemists and Physicists, and she is a COM&TEC member and AITI (Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters) associate member.
